Paiwan tribe ancestor pillar

Although it depicts an ancestor, the dimensions of this piece — 120 cm in height, 19 cm in width, and 9 cm in thickness — along with the density and heaviness of the wood, suggest that it was used as one of the outer pillars supporting the front beam of a house, positioned on one side of the entrance, likely the right side, as implied by the shape of the sacred serpent. One can imagine that the left side of the entrance featured a similar pillar carved with the female ancestor.
