Paiwan tribe Panel

Made of heavy and dense wood, these small panels served as little doors to conceal the contents of niches carved into the slate wall. The Paiwan tribes traditionally created recesses in the thick back wall of the house, often to place sacred objects there. They could also simply be used as shutters for small square windows cut into the slate.
