Betel Nut Mortar with Pestle- Pingpu Tribe

This betel nut mortar from a Pingpu tribe comes with a pestle equipped with an iron tool used to open and prepare the betel nut for chewing. The mortar is carved from bamboo and delicately engraved with floral and foliage motifs, and wrapped with a very fine rattan braid. Given its delicate craftsmanship, this object likely belonged to a woman.
