Rukai tribe Alarm Bell

The alarm bell is an object commonly found among the Puyuma and Rukai tribes. These bells are typically hung on the wooden frames of youth gathering halls and are closely associated with the tribal club system or age-grade system. In times of emergency, members of the youth hall would immediately attach the alarm bell to their waists and run. As they move, the bell produces a loud sound to alert the rest of the community to take emergency shelter. The alarm bell features a simple structure, consisting of a handle and a cylindrical bell. The handle is carved from wood and shaped with a stylized human face. Handle and bell are link together by a solid rope.
