Paiwan tribe Ancestor Panel

Paiwan panel depicting an ancestor in ceremonial attire, wearing an eagle-feather headdress, drinking from a triple cup with two other tribe members. Deer are carved above his head, suggesting that the ancestor was a great hunter. The entire panel is framed by two serpents whose heads meet at the top. A beautiful piece painted in red and white, with the character’s eyes inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Note: part of the figure’s left leg, around the knee, has been restored.
