Panel of the Paiwan tribe

This very beautiful panel, given the richness of its carvings, was likely used as a shelf lintel for sacred objects—the most sacred part of the house. It may also have been placed above the urn, set in a square recess in the slate wall at the back of the house, where the ancestral pot and other spiritual items were kept.
