Puyuma tribe Sword

The Puyuma people, also known as the Beinan, represent a distinct subgroup within the broader Paiwan cultural family, akin to the Rukai. Primarily concentrated around Taitung in southeastern Taiwan, the Puyuma developed a unique tradition of crafting swords with elegantly curved scabbards. Blades of this type are exceptionally rare. This particular example is a utilitarian piece, once used for agricultural tasks or hunting — a testament to both craftsmanship and function.
