YAMI TRIBE MALE CHEST ORNAMENT

This half-moon-shaped chest ornament is made from wood chips of mangosteen, wuzhi (five-finger tree), or persimmon trees, and is traditionally worn by elderly men. Three arc-shaped copper pieces ( oxyded) of varying sizes are attached to the wooden base. The lower edge is adorned with various decorative elements considered beautiful. This particular piece features two carved stones and some seashells strung with hemp ropes, allowing them to hang naturally below. Holes are drilled at both ends of the wooden base, through which thick hemp ropes are tied and fastened behind the neck. It is estimated to have been used around 1940–1950.
